I recently heard a talk show host acknowledge that a caller's principles conflicted with this tax. Yet, the host continued, "are you willing to risk loosing our sports teams over $50 per year?"

To the host, your principles are a convenience, to be followed when the price is right. For example, M-Th when distracted by work, some may stand by their principles not to cheat on their spouse. But come Friday, with relaxation and free time stirring the loins, some suddenly find this outweighs the commitment and head off to the brothel.

This is what bothers me the most about our "host's" attitude. The action proposed is the exact opposite of the purpose of principles, which are supposed to carry you through times when you are "tested".
